Jeff Suto (’88)

Jeff Suto, UCLA Ventures executive committee member, has over 30 years of experience serving as a counselor for venture-backed companies from the pre-business plan stage through sale, IPO and beyond.

Jeff serves as outside general counsel for emerging growth companies. He has 30 years of experience serving as a counselor for venture-capital backed companies from the pre-business plan stage through sale or IPO and beyond. From 1996 to 2002, Jeff was a Director of Venture Law Group (merged with Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe in 2003), and from 1988 to 1995, he practiced in the Palo Alto office of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison. Throughout his career, Jeff has specialized in representing technology companies, with an emphasis on corporate partnering, venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, technology licensing, public offerings and SEC compliance. He has also represented numerous venture capitalists, angel investors and underwriters in private financings and public offerings, as well as individual executives, and has served as an expert witness regarding corporate and securities matters. Jeff received his A.B. in Political Science from Stanford University in 1983. Following college, he worked for two years as a financial analyst for the Musical Instruments division of CBS, Inc., developing a consolidated financial reporting system for a multi-user minicomputer system. Jeff received his J.D. in 1988 from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law, where he was a teaching assistant his second and third years. He is currently a member of the Executive Committee for UCLA Ventures. Jeff has won cash and prizes on numerous game shows.
