David P. Mariani (’87)

Dave founded AtScale in 2013 to provide access to Big Data to everyone who needs it, regardless of data format, size or the type of tool business users want to use.

Dave Mariani is a hands on technology executive with 25 years of experience in delivering Big Data, consumer Internet, Internet advertising and hosted services platforms, creating nearly $800M in company exits.

He founded AtScale in 2013 to provide access to Big Data to everyone who needs it, regardless of data format, size or the type of tool business users want to use. Enterprises like American Express, Visa, Bloomberg, United Healthcare, Cigna, Aetna, Allstate, Home Depot, Comcast and Toyota all use AtScale to democratize access to data for their employees.

At Klout, Dave created the world’s largest social media data platform including a trillion row Hive data. As a VP for Yahoo!, he managed engineering for audience and advertising data pipelines and analytics ingesting 20TBs of data per day across multiple 4,000 node Hadoop clusters and creating the world’s largest cube.

As CTO for Bluelithium, Dave managed a display advertising network delivering 300M ads per day while delivering a multi-terabyte behavior targeting data warehouse. He helped to drive the sale of the company to Yahoo! for $300M.

As CTO and Founder of MineShare, Inc., he built one of the world's first ROLAP platforms, selling the company to Digital Impact, Inc. (NASD:DIGI) for $34.4 million.

"I would really like to help to foster entrepreneurship at my alma mater, UCLA," said Mariani. "Personally, I got lucky and landed at the right spot that launched me onto the path of building great products and companies. I want others to have access to resources and sound advice rather than leaving it up to good fortune as was my path."
